is my utility bill so high? 

There are a number of possibilities for a high utility bill.  Here are a few ways to check your usage.  Check for leaky facets or a slow running toilet to make sure you’re not wasting water. This helps not only with your water bill, but also your sewer bill. Electric space heaters use a large amount of power and should be used minimally or not at all. Also, try turning your thermostat up in the summer and down in the winter.  Even a couple of degrees can make a bit difference.
